In production since 1954, the term SL in SL Class stands for German words Sportlich-Leicht, which literally means Sport Lightweight in English. Now in its sixth generation, which was first launched in 2011, Mercedes Benz is all-set to give the current SL Class a mid-life facelift.
A few days after Mercedes Benz officially teased the new SL Class, the company now reveals the car in 32 hi-res images. Compared to the existing SL Class, the new facelift looks more sharper and sportier.
Changes in the front includes new grille, which brings the SL Class more closer to other new Mercedes cars in the family, new headlights with LED DRLs are seemingly inspired from their flagship sportscar AMG GT, revised bumper, restyled bonnet, and new ORVMs. On the, side, you notice the new alloys wrapped in Continental ContiSportContact rubber.
The rear design of 2016 Mercedes SL Class is very much inspired form the CL Class. The revised bumper now houses new diffusers, LED tail-lights, sculpted rear hood with Mercedes logo in the centre, and a small spoiler. The sportier AMG version of SL Class also gets quad AMG exhausts. The AMG variant also gets carbon fibre accents on the lower bumper and side sills.
On the inside, 2016 Mercedes SL Class features subtle updates like a new flat-bottomed steering wheel, larger infotainment screen, new gear-shift lever, new controller to select the five driving modes – Individual, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Race.
Engine line-up of the new Mercedes SL Class is still not disclosed. Expect the same set of engines, but with improved rating for power and efficiency.
