The latest teaser of 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport comes in the form of a video, a couple of weeks ahead of its world premiere at 2015 Bangkok Big Motor Sale show on August 1. The next gen SUV, also called as Montero Sport or Challenger in certain markets, had already been revealed via patent sketches and previous spyshots.
With a tag line of “Designed for Perfection”, new Pajero Sport is characterized by modern elements such as ‘L’ haped LED daytime running lights, ‘Dynamic Shield’ front fascia design language (X-shaped motif formed by headlamps, grille and secondary air dam), a distinct daylight opening with an upward swooping rear quarter glass panel and rear combination lights with vertically flowing LED elements.
New Triton pickup-based passenger carrier which is underpinned by a ladder frame chassis is expected to inherit the new 2.4-litre MIVEC diesel engine from its sibling. The four-cylinder motor produces a healthy 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque when mated to a 6-speed transmission. Both 4×2 and 4×4 (with low transfer case and locakable differential) configurations will be on offer.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is the only model sold by the brand in India as of now although Outlander is expected to make a comeback soon. 2016 Pajero Sport is expected to be launched in India sometime next year. Like the current gen model, Hindustan Motors’ Chennai plant will assemble the SUV out of CKD kits imported from Thailand.
