New 2017 Hyundai Creta has been launched in India at a starting price of INR 9.28 lakhs (ex-showroom). First launched in 2015, Creta is one of the best selling SUVs in the country today. Offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine optoins, the updated Creta is more of less the same as the existing Creta in terms of design and features, but with added new variants.
The biggest update on offer with the 2017 Creta is the 7.0 Audio Video Navigation infotainment system which is compatible with Apple CarPlay, AndroidAuto & Mirror Link. In addition to this, Hyundai has introduced new SX+ Dual Tone variant for both 1.6L petrol and 1.6L diesel options.

In line with the brand’s contemporary SUV design language, Creta sports a prominent hexagonal grille with triple chrome slats (different from ix25), vertical fog lights and angular headlights with projector and LED daytime running light elements.
Creta manages to have a proper SUV appeal when viewed from side, thanks to its flat roofline, thick C-pillars and blacked out A- and B-pillars. Save for the clean waistline which runs along the length of the car, sheet metal contouring on the sides is kept minimal but black plastic lower body inserts, sporty 16- or 17-inch alloy wheel designs, and silver roof rails add to the crossover’s character.
At the rear, wraparound headlamps extend well into the rear fenders, helping the sense of width but we think the chrome highlighted license plate enclosure is awkwardly placed on the tailgate. The partially black bumper houses reflector elements, pseudo air intakes and a silver diffuser.
New Creta measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, 1,630 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,590 mm. The car has a ground clearance of 190 mm and a fuel tank capacity of 55 litres.
Interior too has a familiar modern Hyundai design theme which is highlighted by a multifunction 4-spoke steering wheel, dual-tone dashboard, silver accented AC vents and a comprehensive instrument console with color MID. The interior color theme varies depending on the variants.
Top-end Hyundai Creta SX+ and SX (O) comes packed with goodies such as 6-airbags, keyless entry with Smart key, electrically foldable ORVMs, rear AC vents, touchscreen multimedia infotainment system, height adjustable driver seat, rear parking camera, automatic climate control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control with Vehicle Stability Management, hill assist control, height adjustable seat belt and so on.
Engines and gearboxes
Engine bay of new Hyundai Creta
The compact crossover borrows its powertrain lineup from Verna sedan. The 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission generates 123 PS and 151 Nm of torque while the 1.4-litre diesel engine is good enough for 90 PS and 220 Nm of torque when mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The range-topping 1.6-litre diesel motor pumps out a segment leading power output of 128 PS and a torque output of 260 Nm. The bigger oil burner comes with a choice of both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
The 1.6-litre petrol engine has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 15.29 kmpl. The 1.4-litre CRDI diesel motor is good for 21.38 kmpl. The ranging topping 1.6-litre CRDI diesel engine manages to deliver 19.67 kmpl and 17.01 kmpl when mated to manual and automatic gearbox respectively.
