2017 Volvo S90 makes global debut at 2016 NAIAS (Photos)

2017 Volvo S90 has made its public debut at 2016 Detroit Motor Show. Slated to enter company dealerships later this summer, it is the first model to be launched after Volvo XC90 SUV; which received overwhelming response when it was launched last year with 88,000 pre orders.

Based on the same platform as XC90, the S90 also has many other similarities, both on the outside and inside. New features on board includes semi autonomous drive Pilot Assist and IntelliSafe Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control and Distance Alert.

Volvo’s next generation Pilot Assist allows the car to accelerate, decelerate, come to complete stop and accelerate upto speeds of 128 kmph without the need for pilot or lead car in front. Large animal detection system detects and warns driver of larger animals such as deer or moose etc so as to reduce collisions.

The base Volvo S90 comes in powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel engine in two states of tune offering 190 hp power & 400 Nm torque and 235 hp power & 480 Nm torque. The T6 variant is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine offering 320 hp power and 400 Nm torque while the engine offered on range topping T8 is capable of 407 hp peak power while it also gets a plug-in hybrid setup similar to XC90. Pricing details have not been detailed as on date and will be disclosed later.
