2018 Auto Expo will not have VW, Audi, General Motors and Skoda
VW, Audi, General Motors and Skoda have announced their decision to pull out of the 2018 Auto Expo but will be back for the 2020 show.
Four automakers Volkswagen, Audi, General Motors and Skoda will be giving the 2018 Auto Expo a miss. The four auto majors have made this announcement citing concerns over return on investment and effectiveness of participation.
VW Group, with brands such as VW, Audi, Skoda, Ducati, Porsche and Lamborghini will all be missing from the upcoming Auto Expo which will be held in February 2018 at Greater Noida.
The company has taken this decision despite the fact that they have enjoyed participating in the Expo over the past few shows and has promised to be back for the 2020 edition. VW Group views the fact that the events are being held at Greater Noida, nearly 25-30 kms outside Central Delhi. Effectiveness of participation is being viewed with some trepidation while the massive investments involved have also made the company take a back seat.
Besides these four automakers, 2018 Auto Expo may also see Nissan, Royal Enfield, Bajaj Auto and Ford opting out of the show, even as no concrete announcements have been made. However, there may be some new entrants into the show which would stir up enthusiasm. These could include Korean Kia, China’s SAIC and Peugeot from France.
Auto Expo, the largest motor show in the country, is to be held from February 9-14, 2018. The venue remains unchanged and will be held at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh while the component show will be held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from February 8-11, 2018. The show is organized by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
