2018 Honda Amaze vs Maruti Dzire vs Hyundai Xcent vs Tata Tigor

Honda Amaze, Maruti DZire, Tata Tigor and Hyundai Xcent, all four in the compact sub 4 meter sedan segment will compete against each other for their share of prominence in the market. We take these four models and compare them on price, features, dimensions and engine specifications so as to make it easier for buyers to opt for the best choice.

Price – All four cars are competitively priced. Honda Amaze is priced at INR 5.59 lakhs for the base E-MT variant going up to INR 8.99 lakhs for the top end diesel V-CVT variant. Maruti Suzuki DZire is also priced between INR 5.46 lakhs for the base petrol variant and at INR 9.41 lakhs for the top end diesel AMT option. Hyundai Xcent base petrol variant is priced at INR 5.46 lakhs while its top spec diesel variant carries a price tag of INR 8.49 lakhs. Tata Tigor is the most affordable of them all. It starts from Rs 4.95 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 7.32 lakh.

Dimensions – 2018 Honda Amaze measures 3,995mm in length, 1,695mm in width and 1,498mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,470mm and has kerb weight of 905 kgs and boot space of 420 kgs which is 20 liters more than its earlier counterpart. Maruti Suzuki DZire measures 3,995mm in length, 1,735mm in width and 1,515mm in height. This is as against the Hyundai Xcent that measures 3,995mm length, 1,660mm width and 1,520mm height. It weighs 1,108 kgs and has boot space of 407 liters. Tata Tigor on the other hand, measures 3992mm in length, 1677 mm in width, 1537 mm in height.

Engine & Mileage – 2018 Honda Amaze gets its power via the same engines seen powering its earlier model. The 1.2 liter petrol engine offers 89 bhp power and 110 Nm torque. The 1.5 liter diesel engine via manual transmission produces 98.9 bhp power and 200 Nm torque and when mated to a CVT is capable of 80 bhp power and 160 Nm torque.

Maruti Suzuki DZire is also available with petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2 liter, 4 cylinder K-Series engine offers 82 bhp power and 113 Nm torque while the 1.3 liter, 4 cylinder DDiS 190 diesel engine offers 74 bhp power and 190 Nm torque with both engines mated to 5 speed manual transmission as standard while 5 speed AMT gearbox is seen on the V trim only.

Hyundai Xcent’s petrol and diesel engines are also identical to its predecessors. The 1.2 liter, 4 cylinder Kappa dual VTVT engine offers 82 bhp power and 114 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission and 4 speed automatic gearbox on the S variant. The 1.2 liter, 3 cylinder, U2 CRDi engine produces 74 bhp power and 190 Nm torque which gets mated to a 5 speed manual only.

Tata Tigor petrol is powered by a 1.2 liter 3 cylinder engine, while the diesel variant is powered by a 1.05 liter diesel variant. Petrol engine is rated at 85 PS / 114 Nm while diesel engine is rated at 70 PS / 140 Nm.

Exteriors and Interiors – All four cars have well designed exteriors and comfortable and spacious interiors. The new Honda Amaze gets a boxy body design with coupe styling. It is similar in stance to the Honda Civic and sports LED DRLs, new 15” alloy wheels and a new color option of Radiant Red apart for four other color options that were also common to its earlier counterpart. Interiors spell new infotainment features with a new DigiPad 2.0 infotainment system, touch screen supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink facility. The new Amaze also gets a larger air conditioning system for better and faster cooling.

Maruti DZire gets chrome treatment, LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs and restyled bumper. It sits on alloy wheels, chrome door handles and ORVMs along with LED tail lamps and LED high mounted stop lamps. Interiors are finished in dual black and beige upholstery. It gets faux wood and chrome accents. Features include roof mounted antenna, power windows and power steering with tilt adjustment. Infotainment is via an IRVM 2 DIN audio system with USB, CD, AUX and FM/AM.

Hyundai Xcent gets similar headlamp design as its earlier counterpart while profile also looks the identical to the older car with a new tail end section. Interiors are similar to the Hyundai Grand i10. It boasts of a 7” touchscreen display system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLink, Bluetooth, Aux-in, USB connectivity and Voice Recognition feature, steering mounted controls, automatic climate control and rear AC vents. The instrument cluster is also similar to its older model with a twin pod unit and multifunction display.

Tata Tigor Styleback comes with the most unique design ever seen in the segment. Designed in Italy, the car comes with 15 inch machine cut alloys, LED tail lights, smoked projector headlamps, high mounted LED stop lamp. On the inside, it gets dual tone dashboard with powerful AC system. The touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and reverse parking camera works well. It also gets Harman powered music system, giving best in class sound experience.
