The sixth generation BMW Z4 was unveiled at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on 23 August 2018. Already on sale in global markets, it has now been launched in India today. The new BMW Z4 is brought into India as a CBU; like its earlier counterpart. Older Z4 was discontinued in September 2016.
Compared to the older Z4, the new gen Z4 is a lot more sporty to look at. Its exteriors are seen with the iconic BMW kidney grille, long clamshell hood, L shaped tail lamps, adaptive LED headlamps, integrated spoiler. It gets a soft top that opens and closes in 10 seconds at speeds upto 50 kmph.
Interiors are distinctive to other BMW models with a 12.3” digital instrument cluster, a 10.3” multimedia display on the dashboard and other features such as electrically adjustable front seats, twin zone climate control, ambient lighting and a 12 speaker Harman Kardon sound system along with BMW Head Up display.
In terms of safety features, the Z4 will be seen with camera and radar based driver assistance system with cross traffic warning, autonomous braking, lane departure warning and rear collision alert.
The BMW Z4 M40i will be powered by a 3.0 liter, inline, six engine offering 340 PS power and 500 Nm torque while the sDrive 20i gets a 2.0 liter, four cylinder engine offering 197 PS power and 320 Nm torque. Both engines get mated to an 8 speed ZF automatic gearbox.
The M40i will be capable of acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.5 seconds to hit a top speed of 250 kmph while the sDrive20i accelerates to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds and will be capable of a top speed of 240 kmph. The M40i will also be offered with M-Sport differential, brakes, adaptive suspension and variable sport steering.
Price of Z4 M40i starts from Rs 78.9 lakhs while that of the sDrive20i starts from Rs 64.9 lakhs. In this price range, its main rivals are the Mercedes Benz SLC and the Porsche 718 Boxster which are priced at Rs.82.85 lakhs and Rs.89.95 lakhs respectively.
