At an event in Bangalore, Mercedes Benz launched the 2020 GLC Coupe in India today
Mercedes has priced the GLC Coupe at a premium against the standard GLC SUV which was launched late last year. The entry-level variant of the GLC SUV is priced at Rs 53 lakhs while the top of the line version costs Rs 58 lakhs (ex-showroom). In comparison, the GLC Coupe SUV facelift is priced Rs 52.7 lakhs for the petrol variant and Rs 53.7 lakhs for the diesel variant. All prices are ex-sh.
The facelifted GLC Coupe is based upon the standard GLC (which we had tested a few months ago, check out the review here). The updated GLC Coupe had made its global debut around an year ago in March 2019. Interestingly, the GLC Coupe body type isn’t new for the Indian market. Since 2017, Mercedes has been selling the AMG GLC 43 in India, however it is for the first time that the Coupe will be available minus the AMG.
2020 Mercedes GLC Coupe has retained its sporty looking stance but gets some additional highlights which make it look distinctive. These include new LED headlamp units, updated front and rear bumpers, angular exhaust tips, new rear diffuser, reworked front grille and new LED tail lamps.
Mercedes has brought the GLC Coupe in India in 2 variants. These include the 300 petrol and 300 diesel. Both the engines are BS 6 emission norms compliant. Both the versions come mated to a 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. Mercedes will also be offering All Wheel Drive as a standard feature which is highlighted by the ‘4MATIC’ tag.
The petrol 300 draws power from a 2.0-litre 4 cylinder turbocharged motor which dishes out 258 bhp & 370 Nm of max torque. The diesel variant, the 300d packs a 2 litre 4 cylinder diesel motor which churns out 245 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. Petrol variant does 0-100 kmph sprint in 6.3 seconds while the diesel variant takes 6.6 seconds.
On the feature front, the GLC Coupe comes packed with a long list of creature comfort features. These include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, MBUX infotainment system (Mercedes Benz User eXperience), touchpad on central console, voice commands, plush updated interiors, 360 degree camera and much more
The primary rival to the GLC Coupe will be the BMW X4 whose range starts at INR 60.6 lakhs (ex-showroom). While there is no shortage of capable premium SUVs in the price bracket, the other Coupe which will potentially be on minds of target customers is the Porsche Macan which is priced at INR 69.98 lakhs (ex-showroom).
