2016 Mercedes GLS 7 seat luxury SUV launch price INR 80.4 lakh

Replacing the GL Class, which was first launched in 2010, the new 2016 Mercedes GLS was launched in India today at INR 80.4 lakh, ex-Pune. Like its predecessor, it too will be produced at the company plant in Chakan near Pune.

Mercedes GLS facelift is a full size, 7 seater SUV. The India-spec Mercedes GLS facelift receives a 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine mated to a 9G TRONIC automatic gearbox offering 258 hp peak power and 620 Nm peak torque sending power to all four wheels via 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.

Changes to exterior of new Mercedes GLS facelift include new headlamps, a twin slat front grille and new bonnet design. It also gets a redesigned front bumper, updated rear bumper and tail lamps along with new 20 inch alloy wheels. 6 exterior color options are also being offered in the facelift. Interiors boast of a refreshed cabin design dominated by a new instrument cluster, new steering wheel and redesigned centre console.

It receives an 8” floating touchscreen along with updated software with COMAND infotainment system. Buyers are given the option of a new Designo Exclusive Nappa Leather package to add to the luxury of the vehicle. Abounding in safety features, these include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, active blind spot, crosswind assist, autonomous braking, etc. It also gets 5 drive modes (Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Individual, and Off-Road), 360-degree camera view, etc.

The new Mercedes GLS Class competes with the likes of Volvo XC90, Audi Q7 and BMW X5. It does a 0-100 kmph in 7.8 seconds, has a top speed of 222 kmph and a turning radius of 6.2 meter.
