2018 Maruti S Cross prices increased by up to Rs 90k – Hyundai Creta rival

Maruti Suzuki India has revised prices of the S-Cross crossover. As per the new price list shared by Nexa dealer, S-Cross Delta is now priced at Rs 9.97 lakhs and Zeta is priced at Rs 10.45 lakhs ex showroom, Delhi. Price list confirms that the old S Cross was priced from Rs 8.61 lakhs to Rs 11.32 lakhs, while the new 2018 S Cross is priced from Rs 8.85 lakhs to Rs 11.45 lakhs.

But, the interesting point to note here is that the prices of old S Cross are inclusive of extended warranty cost, whereas the newer 2018 model prices does not include extended warranty. So the effective price increase is approximately Rs 90k in Delhi.

In addition to this, the recent announce by Supreme Court of mandatory 5 year insurance has also resulted in an increase of price. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, initially launched in 2015, is a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta in India. But unlike the Creta, which is offered in three engine options (2 diesel and 1 petrol), the S-Cross is only offered in a single engine option of 1.3 liter diesel.

It was offered with 1.6 liter diesel engine, but that was discontinued when the companmy launched facelift last year. So as of today, the S-Cross is only powered by a Fiat sourced 1.3 MultiJet diesel engine that also powers the Swift, DZire, Baleno, Ciaz and Ertiga. But there are reports that Maruti will soon launch a new petrol S-Cross variant.

Today, with petrol engined vehicles garnering more attention, the company is definitely missing out on sales due to non-availability of petrol S-Cross. Maruti Suzuki currently sells around 4,000 units of the S-Cross each month. The addition of a new petrol engine will allow the company to augment sales volumes. It is estimated that once the S-Cross with a petrol engine is launched, it will take away some attention from the Hyundai Creta which is currently the top selling luxury mid-sized SUV in India with over 10,000 units average sales.

Speaking about the petrol S-Cross, it will be powered by 1.5 liter SHVS petrol engine, which is also seen on board the new Ciaz and soon to be launched 2018 Ertiga. This petrol engine as seen on the Ciaz offers 104.7 PS power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm torque at 4,400 rpm. Power is sent to front wheels via 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic. Expect price of petrol S-Cross to start from Rs 8.1 lakhs, ex-showroom. In comparison, Hyundai Creta prices start from Rs 9.44 lakhs for petrol and Rs 10 lakhs for diesel, going all the way to Rs 15.11 lakhs for top end.
