Maruti, Hyundai and Toyota registered minor sales decline while other OEMs like Honda, Tata, Mahindra, Nissan & VW registered massive drop in their dispatch numbers. Only OEMs which have managed to register growth over their last year performance are Renault & Ford. Kia however seems to be unstoppable and has become the third largest OEM (by volume) in less than a year since its market debut.
Similar results are noticeable when we look at the performance of Top 10 Selling cars for Feb’20. The list contains 6 names from Maruti, 3 from Hyundai and one from Kia. Continuing with past trends, the top 3 spots have been taken by Maruti.

The best selling car for Feb’20 was Maruti Swift, which clocked overall sales of 18,696 units, a marginal 2.5% growth in dispatch numbers over last year. WagonR too performed well by registering sales of 18,235 units, and posting a growth of 16.4%. The Alto witnessed its sales decline by 27% however it still managed to claim the third spot in the list with a total sales of 17,921 units.
Nexa’s Baleno too has been registering consistent sales, month over month. In Feb’20, Maruti shipped a total of 16,585 units of Baleno to its dealer partners, a 7% decline over last year. The first non-Maruti car in the list is the Seltos which claimed the 5th spot. Kia sold 14,024 units of Seltos in Feb’20. It is to be noted that this figure is higher than overall sales of OEMs like Honda, Mahindra, Tata Motors etc.
The Ertiga, which has been the best selling MPV for quite some time continued with its lead over the competition. Maruti sold 11,782 units of Ertiga to its dealer partners in Feb’20, registering a strong 47% growth in numbers. Eeco from Maruti also saw a good growth of 46% in Feb’20.
Next three cars on the list are coincidentally all from Hyundai. Hyundai sold around 10.5K units of both the Grand i10 and Venue. Both the cars are consistent strong performers in their respective segments. While there was no base of the Venue in Feb’19, its Feb’20 numbers of 10,321 units are also commendable as a stand-alone data point.
The 10th car on the list is the Maruti S-Presso. On the 11th spot is i20, which is due for an update some time later this year. It is interesting that Hyundai could still ship over 8.7K units of the i20 to its dealer partners in Feb’20. One car which has dropped from the list and is expected to make its entry back is the Creta from Hyundai. Hyundai will be launching the next gen Creta on 17th March and the SUV is expected to feature back in the list soon. Other car which too is expected to resurrect back in the list is the Swift Dzire, which is scheduled for a mid-life facelift sometime soon.
