Hero Xtreme 200 R unveiled in India – Launch later this year

Hero Xtreme 200 R naked sportsbike which made debut as a concept at the 2016 Auto Expo about two years ago, has finally been unveiled as a production ready bike. Built on a diamond frame and called Hero Xtreme 200 R, it is the new flagship motorcycle from India’s largest motorcycle manufacturer.

Powering the new Hero Xtreme 200 R is a 199.6 cc single cylinder air cooled engine which delivers 18.4 PS at 8000 rpm and 17.1 Nm at 6500 rpm. One important aspect Hero revaled about the bike is that during its development, the sole focus was kept on keeping riding dynamics optimum. Hero claims that this has resulted in making their machine as the most performance oriented in the segment. Fuel system is CARB and not FI.

Styling wise, the Hero Xtreme 200 R is an edgier version of the existing Xtreme model. The motorcycle dons sporty tank extensions, familiar bikini fairing with LED pilot lamps, digi-analog instrument console, thin contoured seat, sharp edged tailpiece with LED taillight, belly pan in air vents and a simple silencer with silver guard. The white-red-black color theme feels a bit overdone though.

New Hero Xtreme 200 R is equipped with regular telescopic fork at the front while the rear gets monoshock suspension system. Both wheels are retarded by a disc brake each. Front disc is 276 mm while rear is 220 mm. The motorcycle also benefits from single channel ABS (optional). Five colour options are on offer.

Hero Motocorp is gearing up to arm itself with a range of compact sportsbikes which includes the Xtreme 200 R and a new 300 cc motorcycle (based on the XF3R concept). Speaking about the HX250, plans to launch that have been cancelled. The objective is to gain a sizable market share in the burgeoning segment, with the help of new sports motorcycles, which will help them take on the likes of KTM DUKE and RC series, Bajaj Dominar, TVS Apache 310, etc.
