Honda Car India has launched the 2020 BS6-compliant version of the Amaze compact-sedan at a starting price of Rs 6.09 lakh, for the entry-level ‘E’ petrol variant. The ex-showroom prices go all the way up to Rs 9.96 lakh for the top-of-the-line VX CVT diesel avatar. Compared to the outgoing BS4 variants, prices have gone up by around Rs 8,900-16,900 for the petrol-manual; Rs 8,900-11,900 for the petrol-CVT; Rs Rs 26,900-50,900 for the diesel-manual; and, Rs 26,900-29,900 for the diesel-CVT.
Besides the re-engineering done to the power plant to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms, there isn’t any major change to the features or aesthetics of the outgoing BS4-compliant Honda Amaze. The second-generation model of the popular compact-sedan made its debut back in May 2018.

Rajesh Goel, Senior Vice President & Director (Marketing & Sales) of Honda Cars India, shared that the Honda Amaze is the best-selling product from the brand and one of the main players in India’s highly competitive compact-sedan market. Furthermore, the updated Honda Amaze is the first BS6-compliant diesel product from the Japanese brand in India and boasts of best-in-class balance between performance and fuel-efficiency.
Around 3.9 lakh Honda Amaze units have hit the Indian market ever since its very first introduction back in May 2018. Out of this, 1.3 lakh units are in its second generation which made its initial appearance at Auto Expo 2018. Auto Expo 2020 is right around the corner, but Honda Car India (and many other major brands) will not be participating in the biennial automotive event.

As mentioned before, the 2020 Honda Amaze BS6 model does not carry any major change other than in the engine compartment. The 1.2-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder petrol engine makes roughly 89bhp and 110Nm of torque while the 1.5-litre i-DTEC four-cylinder diesel mill is good for 99bhp and 200Nm of torque. Both engines are available mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. However, the diesel-CVT variant gets reduced output at 79bhp and 160Nm. Globally, Honda is a pioneer at making good CVT products and the Honda Amaze is the first car in India to feature a diesel-CVT combo.
ARAI-tested fuel economy figures are quite impressive. The petrol variants return 18.6km/l and 18.3km/l in its manual and CVT formats, respectively. Meanwhile, the figures rise to 24.7km/l and 21km/l for the diesel-manual and diesel-CVT avatars. This is another reason for the compact-sedan’s appreciable success in the market dominated by the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
While the first-generation Honda Amaze was essentially a Brio hatchback with extended luggage capacity, the current second-generation model was developed entirely from the ground up keeping the needs and wants of the average Indian buyer in mind. The Honda Amaze is available in certain other Asian markets as well.
