Hyundai Verna Dec 2017 sales at 1,953 units – Affordable 1.4L petrol variant launched

Launched back in August 2017, the new Hyundai Verna was off to a good start in the Indian auto industry. In a few days after launch, the car got over 20,000 bookings and 1.5 lakh enquiries.

But, last few months show that sales of the new Verna have declined steadily (6054 units in Sep 2017, 4701 units in Oct, 3751 units in Nov). For the month of Dec 2017, sales declined to its lowest, at 1,953 units. This was the lowest recorded monthly sales by Verna many years.

In order to boost sales, a 1.4 liter petrol engine powered variant of the new Hyundai Verna has been launched. This new variant sits as the cheapest variant and is priced at Rs 7.79 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. This means, it undercuts the price of the current cheapest variant of Verna by Rs 70,000. Below is the latest price list of new Verna.

The engine delivers 98.6 hp and 134 Nm torque. It is mated to a five speed manual transmission. This engine option is on offer with E as well as EX trim. Features on offer with the E trim are dual airbags, ABS, power mirrors, cooled glovebox, tilt steering and trip meter. On the EX trim, you also get rear seat arm rest, 5 inch touchscreen system, rear parking sensors, projector fog lamps, cruise control, rear AC vents and adjustable driver’s seat height.

Commenting on the new engine introduction Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Director-Sales & Marketing, HMIL said, “The Next Gen VERNA is a super sedan and has established its supremacy in the market since its launch in August 2017. The Next Gen VERNA with 1.4 L Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine is the perfect combination of performance and fuel efficiency and showcases Hyundai’s commitment to provide products based on customers aspirations. We are sure this addition will strengthen VERNA’s popularity and offer the customers a wider option to own and experience the super sedan.”

Hyundai Verna rivals with cars like Honda City and Maruti Ciaz. Last three months saw Verna sales average at about 3,400 units while Honda City has averaged at 4,000 units while Ciaz has averaged at 3,600 units. Of the three, Verna is the newest car in the segment. Will it be able to regain No 1 status in the segment, only time will tell.
