KTM dealers have commenced bookings for the soon to be launched 790 Duke. To be launched as a CBU at first, this is the biggest offering by KTM in India. In the first phase, 100 units are on offer for 2019.
Depending on the demand, KTM India will take call on whether to initiate CKD operations or not. An advanced assembly line will get operational at the Bajaj Auto Akurdi plant, if CKD operations are approved.
The new KTM Duke 790will be a game changer when it arrives in India. Taking design cues from the more refined 1290 Super Duke R bike model, it will be seen with a new parallel twin engine made by KTM and an extensive electronics package. Below is the leaked brochure of India spec KTM Duke 790.
KTM 790 Duke will be powered by a 799cc, LC8c parallel twin engine offering 103 bhp power at 9,000 rpm and 83 Nm torque at 8,000 rpm mated to a 6 speed transmission. Other features include LED DRLs, a fully digital instrument console, disc brakes and Bosch cornering ABS. The handle bar is fully customizable to suit the riding needs of the rider.
The Bosch IMO engine management system offers a total of 4 riding modes of Sport, Street, Rain and a customized Track mode. The engine receives slipper clutch allowing for seamless gearshifts while the placement of the exhaust ensures better ground clearance and also enhances its style quotient.
The fly-by-wire system results in improved ride dynamics and better fuel efficiency while the horizontally split crankcase keeps overall dimensions and weight of the motor to the minimum. Suspension will be via WP non adjustable USD fork in the front and preload adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking will be sourced from Spanish brake maker J Juan which also supplies brakes for Moto2 teams.
Bookings are open at select KTM India dealerships for Rs 30-50k. Expected launch price is Rs 8.5 lakhs. It will compete with the MV Agusta Brutale 800, Ducati Monster 797, Triumph Street Triple S, Kawasaki Z900 and the Suzuki GSX-S750 in the middleweight naked motorcycle segment in the country.
