Opel Mokka X – 2016 Geneva Motor Show LIVE

New Opel Mokka X celebrates its world premiere at Geneva Motor Show. To enter the market in the fall of 2016, the new car comes with an improved exterior, interior, and updated infotainment systems.

New Opel Mokka X front fascia has more sculpted surfaces and reduced plastic inserts in the wing-shaped horizontal front grille. Double wing LED daytime running lights are seen upfront. The sub-compact SUV is the first of future Opel SUV and crossover vehicles to use the ‘X’ badging that denotes ruggedness.

New Mokka X front face wears a solid and masculine stance, and a bold exterior. This continues to the rear. The double wing signature also features in tail lamps. LED tech options are available. Opel’s ‘blade’ sweeps upwards to the rear. Amber Orange and Absolute Red are added to the colour range.

A redeveloped centre stack sits around the 7 and 8-inch infotainment system touchscreens. An Astra inspired new dashboard sits inside. The new instrument panel counts on fewer horizontal shaped tap buttons for a simpler design for easy execution. Infotainment functions are accessible via the capacitive touchscreens.

After the new gen 1.6 whisper diesel units with 81 kW/110 hp and 100 kW/136 hp, the Opel SUV extends its engine range. New gen 112 kW/152 hp 1.4-litre Direct Injection Turbo seen in new Astra is available, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive uses an electro magnetic multi-plate clutch. On dry road surfaces, front wheels drive the vehicle forward but not when starting the car. Wet road conditions sees max torque distribution of 50 percent on the front and rear axle.

Apart from AWD, Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) LED headlamps are included. AFL LED system adapts headlight lighting pattern to driving condition for improved light performance and glare adjustment. Nine functions/lighting patterns are on offer including town, country, and tourist mode, curve and cornering function, backing-up /maneuvering light and stop mode light (eco). The new lighting system replaces the previously used BiXenon AFL.

New-gen Opel Eye front camera with higher resolution and increased image processing positively impacts functions it’s associated with, including High Beam Assist of the AFL LED lighting system. Following Distance Indication (FDI) uses the front camera to detect moving lead vehicles. Forward Collision Alert is enhanced with a reflective LED Alert Display. Red LEDs reflect on the windscreen if distance between the car and a vehicle ahead reduces too fast. Audible caution prompts the driver to brake. Lane Departure Warning is activated at speeds over 60 km/h.

Mokka X uses Opel OnStar services from its launch. New gen IntelliLink infotainment system will be in use. IntelliLink helps sync smartphones to the car via both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone projection.

AGR tested and certified ergonomic seats make journeys across all terrains comfortable. Keyless Open and Start is accentuated with a keyless start / ignition interface.
