With launch date fast approaching, Tata Motors is actively conducting final tests of the Tata Altroz hatchback. At the same time, Tata is actively keeping audience engaged with teasers. The latest teaser of Altroz shared by the company reads – “Behold the new Gold. Happy Akshaya Tritiya.”

In the teaser, Tata shows side design of production spec Altroz. Tata Altroz is a premium hatchback. It was earlier showcased as the 45X at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. It made its debut in near-production ready form at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

Tata Altroz is the first product to be based on the modular ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture while it is the second product to sport the IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. Tata Altroz will be positioned above the Tiago in the company lineup; while prices are not revealed as on date, estimates put the Altroz in a price bracket of Rs.5.5-8.5 lakhs, ex-sh.

Tata Altroz will come in with best in class performance and cabin space. It will also offer class leading connectivity and mobility features. It measures 3,988mm in length,1,754mm in width and 1,505mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,501mm. The exteriors will boast of all LED Lighting with LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs and LED tail lamps. It will also receive electrically operated ORVMs with turn indicators and will sit on 16” alloy wheels.

Interiors get detailed with a floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also sports a semi digital instrument cluster, multifunction steering wheel, flat bottom steering wheel and comfortable seating in a two tone finish.

Tata Altroz will be powered by the same engine lineup as seen on the Tiago and Nexon. These would include a 1.2 liter petrol engine offering 84 bhp power and 114 Nm for entry variant. For mid and top variant, 1.2 liter petrol offering 108 hp and 175 Nm. Nexon sourced 1.5 liter turbocharged diesel engine will offer lesser power of around 90 hp and 220 Nm.

The reason diesel Altroz is getting lower power and torque rating as compared to Nexon diesel, is because it will be mated to 5 speed transmission from Tiago, and not the 6 speed transmission from Nexon. Space constraint is the reason behind Tata engineers going for the 5 speed MT from Tiago, instead of the heavy duty 6 speed MT from Nexon. Upon its launch, the Tata Altroz will rival the Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20.
