Hero MotoCorp dominates the top ten motorcycles sold in India in September this year with Splendor being the most popular

After a horrid first quarter of the 2020-21 fiscal, automotive sales have turned out to be smoother in the last couple of months. Ever since restrictions have been eased, businesses could be conducted in rather effortless manner although it took some time to reach this point.

With the need for personal mobility bound to increase after the outspread of Covid-19 virus, this has clearly reflected on the sales volume for last month. Particularly motorcycles have benefitted from this surge in demand and this is reflected in the monthly sales volume of bikes in September 2020.

Hero MotoCorp Dominates

As usual Hero MotoCorp continued to dominate with four of its offerings making it to the top ten motorcycles sold last month. A total of 10,27,142 units of bikes were sold in September 2020 as opposed to 8,54,435 units in September 2019 and 8,53,078 units in August 2020 which makes growth of 20.21 percent and 20.40 percent respectively.

Splendor and HF Deluxe- most popular bikes in India

For Hero MotoCorp, the main contributors were their entry-level bikes- Splendor and HF Deluxe registered sales of 2,80,250 units and 2,16,201 units respectively. Thus occupying the top two spots of most selling motorcycles. In terms of YoY growth, Splendor and HF Deluxe witnessed an appreciable growth of 14.54 percent and 10.82 percent respectively. When it comes to MoM sales, both these bikes recorded growth of 20.64 percent and 22.03 percent in comparison to August 2020.

Honda CB Shine and Bajaj Pulsar

Honda CB Shine consolidated at the third position with 1,18,004 units sold last month which translated to 32.75 percent YoY growth and 11.19 percent MoM growth. This was followed by Bajaj Auto’s most popular range of motorcycles- Pulsar which recorded sales of 1,02,698 units last month.

In comparison to September 2019, Bajaj retailed 34,630 units of Pulsar more in September this year which led to YoY growth of 50.88 percent. The MoM growth of Pulsar stood at 17.77 percent due to an increase in sales by 15,496 units last month.

Other bikes

Bikes like Hero Glamour, Passion, Bajaj Platina and CT also raked in decent numbers last month. All these bikes recorded positive YoY and MoM growth except Bajaj CT which recorded an impressive 51,778 units in September 2019 as compared to 45,105 units retailed in September 2020. It was interesting to see Royal Enfield Classic 350 break into the top ten sold motorcycles last month as it registered 38,827 units last month up by 9,451 units sold in September last year.

With the current trend, we can expect sales volume to rise in a scaled manner in the coming months. The surge in demand might be relieving sight for all manufacturers and dealers across the country. Also readTop 10 two wheelers sold in Sep 2020.
