TVS Motor Company has launched the new BS6-compliant range of the popular Jupiter series at a starting price of Rs 61,449. The higher TVS Jupiter ZX variant is priced at Rs 63,449 while the top-of-the-line Jupiter Classic BS6 made its debut much earlier at Rs 67,911. All prices mentioned here are ex-showroom and can vary slightly depending on your location.
The TVS Jupiter Grande variant (the most premium choice in BS4 format) is yet to go through BS6-updation and it remains unclear whether it would ever get the update. In fact, the official TVS Jupiter website contains only the updated BS6 prices (alongside the current BS4 prices) while technical specifications of the new range are unavailable. As expected, prices of the BS6 models have gone up significantly compared to that of the outgoing BS4 models. The base price is up by around Rs 6,100 while the ZX variant is dearer by almost Rs 4,102. On the other hand, the Jupiter Classic (which is better equipped and more desirable than the Base and ZX variants) gets a substantial hike of about Rs 8,000.
Changes on the Jupiter BS6 range are mostly limited to the engine department. In the usual fashion of updating to BS6 emission standards, the power plant ditches the old carburettor for a new fuel-injection system. Combined with TVS Motor Company’s EcoThrust technology, the FI system promises 15% better fuel-efficiency.
Even though the full-specifications of the lesser BS6 Jupiter range is unavailable on the official website, the facts and figures of the BS6 Jupiter Classic were shared alongside its introduction towards the end of last year. The 110cc engine makes 7.4bhp and 8Nm of torque to run the CVT powertrain. The carburetted BS4 had slightly more output at 7.9bhp and 8.4Nm. The BS6-compliant Jupiter Classic also boasts of TVS Motor Company’s patented Econometer that comprises of two modes: Power and Eco. The purpose of either mode is self-explanatory.
As mentioned before, details of the high-end Jupiter Grande are unknown at this point. The Jupiter Grande BS4 is priced at Rs 65,000 ex-showroom and boasts of the brand’s SmartXConnect smartphone connectivity. It is also the first 110cc scooter in India to feature the technology.
The TVS Jupiter series is one of the most demanded scooter names in the Indian market. It primarily locks horns with the segment-leading Honda Activa (which is now in its 6G avatar), Hero Maestro Edge and Suzuki Access.
