Anand Mahindra has has tweeted about the upcoming Jawa motorcycles yet again. The head honcho of the multi-billion dollar Mahindra Group cannot be any less excited of what he is terming as ‘imminent resurrection’.
As per reports, production of Jawa motorcycles is expected to commence from later this year and the bikes will be remodeled around the Jawa 250.
Anand Mahindra tweeted a photo which shows a biker in the rain, with a quote, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to ride in the rain”. The tweet and picture draws attention to the return of the Jawa brand in India.
Mahindra two wheelers are proprietors of the Jawa and BSA bikes. The bikes will enter production at the company plant in Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh and while no other details are disclosed as on date, one can expect that the bikes will sport a retro appeal.
As on date, Royal Enfield dominates the retro styled motorcycle segment in India with nearly 90% market share which is soon to find a competitor as the new Jawa bikes from Mahindras go on sale.
Mahindra will launch the Jawa motorcycles under their respective brand names and not under Mahindra. The Jawa 350 is what is planned as the first offering in India. Jawa 350 was launched in international markets in 2017. It gets two engine options that include a 350cc twin cylinder two stroke engine and a 400cc single cylinder four stroke engine.
However, with two stroke engines banned in India, Mahindra could offer the motorcycle with the Mojo’s 300 cc single cylinder unit offering 27 hp power and 32 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed gearbox. One can expect the bikes to be refined and having good built quality, just as is seen on the Mojo. More details will be revealed closer to launch.
