Audi A4 next gen to arrive in 2014 with e-quattro and 100 kgs less
A4, the best selling sedan from German car maker Audi, is about to get a new generation, which will be seen with cylinder deactivation technology, e-quattro and many new state of the art features. Set to arrive by mid 2014, the new Audi A4 will be lighter by 100 kgs and will feature all new four wheel drive system, called e-quattro, which is electric quattro drivetrain.
Based on the new MLBevo matrix platform, the new A4 will be launched as a 2015 model. The weight of 100 kgs is reduced with the use of ultra lightweight material in the new A4. Expect the next gen A4’s kerb weight to be around 1,330 kgs. This reduce in weight, will help the 2015 A4 to perform better, and be more efficient.
Cylinder deactivation is based on driver inputs which shuts off intake valves in certain cylinders which is what allows the system to consume upto 0.5 liters less fuel per 100 kms. 2015 Audi A4 will come in with a number of cosmetic enhancements which will include a distinguished grille, inflated wings. Headlights will be equipped with full LED lights while tail lights will also be larger along with its rear end spoiler.
The new e-quattro will allow the 2015 Audi A4 to feature electrically driven rear axle, compared to today’s mechanical one’s. Where engine details of the 2014 Audi A4 are concerned one can expect to see a host of petrol and diesel engines ranging from 122 hp to 211 hp units. A4 engines will include a 225 bhp 2.0 liter petrol engine with a 2.0 liter TDI offering 197 bhp and 295 lb/ft torque while a plug in hybrid version 95 hp electric motor is also in the offing.
