First showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo as Bajaj Pulsar 400CS, is not going to be a Pulsar when it is launched later this month. Yes, Bajaj will launch it under a new band name – DOMINAR. To be called Bajaj Dominar 400, the first official teasers were revealed a few minutes ago via the official twitter account.
Designed as a cruiser, the upcoming Dominar 400 gets a chiseled, low slung design, with a flair of Pulsar design language. In the front is a LED headlight which seems to be inspired from the head of a Transformer. Besides the headlight is smart and sleek LED indicators.
Other design features include new fuel tank design, split seat (with a shape inspired from Ducati Diavel), digital speedometer mounted on the fuel tank, digital instrument cluster, wide tyres for that extra grip you need while taking on the corners, disc brakes with dual channel ABS, LED taillight and LED turn indicators, and a newly developed exhaust system.
Powering the new Bajaj Dominar 400 is a KTM Duke / RC 390 sourced 373 cc single cylinder liquid cooled 4 stroke engine. On board the KTM twins, this engine delivers 44 PS power and 35 Nm torque. Considering that the Pulsar 400 is a Cruiser Sport, the engine is expected to be tuned to offer more low-end torque and less peak power, with focus being on comfortable cruising in the mid-range.
Once launched, not only it will be the most powerful Bajaj, it will also be the fastest Bajaj till date. Expected price will be in the range of INR 1.6-1.8 lakh, ex-showroom, placing it between the KTM Duke 200 and the Duke 390 in the company line-up.
