DSK-Benelli has been expanding its presence across India aggressively and has a busy product pipeline to back it up. The company has just introduced the TNT 600i Limited Edition motorcycle with exclusive livery and the next activity would be the launch of its most affordable model yet, the TNT 25 (by November 2015).
Speaking to us on the sidelines of 600i LE’s launch, Shirish Kulkarni, Chairman, DSK-Motowheels, revealed that the company is working on introducing optional ABS in four of its motorcycles – Benelli TNT 600i, TNT 600GT, TNT 300 and TNT 25.
Instead of sourcing ready-to-fit ABS kits from suppliers like Brembo which could shoot the cost up by INR 1 lakhs, Benelli opted to develop one on its own in China. This system, Mr. Kulkarni says, inflates the price tag by around INR 30,000-40,000 rupees but DSK-Benelli is working on bring the cost down further.
The Benelli TNT 600i and TNT 300 will receive the ABS option by November while the other two aforementioned motorcycles will get the same 3 to 4 months down the line. Talking about the compulsory two-wheeler ABS rule which is set to be implemented in 2017, he assured that the company is ready to upgrade its entire portfolio.
DSK-Benelli is aiming to corner a sizable market share in the burgeoning sportsbike segment and the option ABS would help attracting more customers.
