Best selling 10 scooters FY 2019 – Honda Activa on top with 30.08 lakh sales

As per data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), scooter sales in India declined 0.27 percent to 6,701,469 units in 2018-19 as against 6,719,909 units in the year ago fiscal.

The best selling scooter in India in FY19 was the Honda Activa which retained its lead position from FY18, even though sales dipped 4.6 percent from 3,154,030 units sold in FY18 to 3,008,334 units sold in the FY19 period. Like the Honda Activa, the TVS Jupiter also retained its No. 2 spot on the list in FY18 and FY19. Again it was noticed that sales of the Jupiter dipped from 810,916 units sold in FY18 to 788,456 units sold in the same period of the previous year.

FY19 saw the Suzuki Access in a No. 3 spot with 539,123 units sold up from a No.5 position in FY18 with 408,334 units sold, up 32 percent. Hero Maestro, which was at No. 3 in FY18, was relegated to No. 5 in FY19 with 272,432 units sold as compared to 477,822 units sold in the FY18 period, a dip of a whopping 42 percent. The new Maestro Edge in the 125cc segment is also expected to bring in more demand upon launch.

Honda Dio was another scooter that retained its position at No. 4 specially as this scooter attracts a younger segment of buyers in the country. Sales increased from 409,233 units in FY18 to 446,264 units in FY19. TVS Ntorq , the second best selling 125cc scooter in India, entered the fray in FY19 at No. 6, with total sales of 213,039 units while the scooter was not on the list of top 10 best selling scooters in FY18. Yamaha Fascino also retained its position at No. 7 in FY18 and FY19 even though sales dipped marginally from 208,775 units sold in FY18 to 202,227 units sold in FY19.

Hero Duet lost 2 spots from No.6 in FY18 with 222,806 units sold, to No. 8 in FY19 with 175,239 units sold down 21 percent YoY. Hero Pleasure also slipped a position from No. 8 in FY18 with 183,039 units sold, to No. 9 in FY19 with sales with sales down 10 percent to 164,515 units.

Honda Gazia, also in the 125cc scooter segmentn was at No. 10 on the list of scooter sales in FY19 with total sales of 147,789 units. However, the Gazia was launched in November 2017 and this was the first full year of sales. Yamaha Ray and TVS Scooty Pep at No. 9 and 10 respectively in FY18 failed to find a place among the top 10 best selling scooters in FY19.
