Best selling 2 wheelers Feb 2019 – Hero Splendor replaces Honda Activa on top

The Indian two wheeler market saw a drop in overall sales in the month of February 2019. High insurance costs, GST at the rate of 28 percent, upcoming safety norms and new emission standards along with increased prices all had an impact on overall sales which resulted in a negative growth for the two wheeler market in the country.

Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India commanded the top positions on the list of best selling two wheelers in February 2019. Hero Splendor took the No. 1 spot on the list with 2,44,241 units, exceeding sales of the Honda Activa by 39,002 units. In fact, Hero Splendor and Honda Activa commanded a major portion of the two wheeler sales in February 2019 with a total of 4,49,480 units sold, 27.83 percent of the total 16,15,071 units sold during the month.

Hero Splendor is presented in five variants and commands a major share of the company’ s total sales of 6,00,616 units for Feb 2019. While Honda Activa accounted for 50.23 percent of the total sales of 4,08,559 units by Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India during the past month. Hero HF Deluxe was at No. 3 on the list with a total of 1,84,396 units; though sales dipped significantly from January 2019, when it registered sales of 1,95,706 units.

At No. 4 was the Honda CB Shine with total sales of 86,355 units, on par with the 86,616 units sold during January 2019. At No. 5 was the Bajaj Pulsar with sales of 84,511 units a marginal dip as compared to 85,099 units sold in January 2019.

TVS Luna XL Super moped was at No. 6 with total sales of 75,001 units in February 2019. Another offering from Hero MotoCorp was the Hero Passion at No. 7 of which 67,374 units were sold in February 2019, a 41 percent increase over 44,511 units sold in January 2019. Though sales of Hero Passion are quite high, it should be noted that the company used to sell over 1 lakh units of this model per month not a long time ago. Sales have declined due to new launches in the segment.

Bajaj Platina at No. 8 saw sales to the extent of 53,044 units in February 2019, again a dip as compared to sales in January 2019 which stood at 58,231 units. At Nos. 9 and 10 were the TVS Jupiter and Suzuki Access 125 with a total of 48,688 units of the Jupiter were sold last month while 48,265 units of the Suzuki Access 125 were sold.
