Sachin Tendulkar hands over BMW cars to India’s Olympic medalists
At a presentation ceremony held on Saturday at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy, India’s Rio Olympics Heroes were presented with BMW cars. The keys to these cars were handed over by Sachin Tendulkar, who was Indian contingent’s goodwill ambassador at the Rio Olympics events held from August 5-21, 2016.
Shuttler P V Sindhu, Wrestler Sakshi Malik and Gynmast Dipa Karmarkar along with badminton coach Pullela Gopichand were presented with BMW cars.
For winning a silver medal, Sindhu was presented with a red BMW 320d while Sakshi received a deep blue BMW X1 for winning a bronze medal in the 58 kg category. Dipa who narrowly missed third position in the woman’s vault gymnastics received a white BMW X1 while Sindhu’s coach Pullela Gopichand was presented with a white BMW 320d. The BMW 320d is priced above INR 37 lakhs while BMW X1 starts at INR 29.90 lakhs.
Besides presenting the winners with keys to these luxury vehicles, Sachin Tendulkar also congratulated the winners and praised them for their performance at Rio. He took selfies with each of the winners and commended them on bringing in laurels for India and making the nation proud. Tendulkar drew attention to the fact that Dipa, though she missed third position, stunned the world by successfully attempting the death-defying Produnova vault while he also appreciated the efforts of Gopichand in grooming the champions.
