Launched in India in July 2018, the twins, BMW G310R and G310GS complete their first full year of sales in India this month. Where domestic sales is concerned, the company reports a monthly average of 150 unit sales.
In fact, BMW Motorrad India has now introduced an interest free finance scheme for its entry level twins. Finance can be availed for upto a two-and-a-half-year term (30 months). The finance break-down and down payment varies depending on choice of colour.
BMW G 310 R is available in Racing Red with Cosmic Black colour choices at a price of Rs 3,66 lakhs. The Pearl White colour option is pricier at Rs 4,23 lakhs. BMW G310GSis offered in the same shades. Racing Red with Cosmic Black bikes retail at a price of Rs 4,23 lakhs, and the Pearl White colour choice costs Rs 4,35 lakhs.
For BMW India, both bikes have posted favourable sales in earlier months, and contributed to improving overall sales numbers for the manufacturer. And while recent months have been difficult for the whole gamut of Indian auto industry participants, it’s not altogether disheartening for BMW Motorrad India when one takes into consideration the company’s export performance.
Production of BMW 310 twins is reported at 2,345 units for May 2018, down 42.77 percent at 1,342 units in May 2019. Since BMW Motorrad India has been exporting the 310 twins from India much before the company opened sales in India, production here was started much earlier than last June. Cumulative production for April-may in FY2018-19 stood at 4,872, units whereas production figures for the current fiscal are down 44.02 percent at 2,727 units.
BMW Motorrad India exported 2,169 BMW 310 units in May 2018. Exports for May 2019 is down 42 percent at 1,258 units. April 2019 exports stood at 2150 units and was down 39.06 percent at 1310 units. Cumulative exports for April-May FY2018-19 stood at 4,319 units and is down 40.54 percent at 2,568 for April-May FY2019-20.
Production of BMW G310R and G310GS is still higher than that of TVS Apache 310. All three bikes are manufactured by TVS at the company plant in Hosur. At the time of launch, TVS had hoped to sell 1,000 units of Apache 310 every month. But that is not the case.
TVS Apache 310 sales average at about 150 units a month in India. In April 2019, TVS managed to sell 175 units in the domestic market and exported 52 units. In May 2019, TVS sold 183 units in India, and exported 62 units. In all, about 472 units have been sold globally in the last two months.
