The car will employ flex-fuel engines that can run on both petrol and ethanol.

A prototype of the Brazil-spec Renault Kwid has been spotted testing ahead of its launch later this year. The spy shots reveal that the budget hatchback is equipped with rear windshield wiper which is not available in the India-spec car.

The Kwid will be locally assembled in Brazil with kits sourced from India. The SUV-ish hatchback has been adapted to comply with the stringent LATIN NCAP crash test standards.

Renault Brazil has recently opened a microsite for its upcoming product and teased the front fascia. Visually, the Indian and Brazilian Kwid are more or less identical save for few elements like subtly revised bumpers. It also gets alloy wheels. Apart from this, Renault Brazil has confirmed that the Kwid in Brazil will be more safer than in India, thanks to added weight of 130 kgs, compared to India-spec Kwid. Brazilian Kwid will also be more feature rich.

Interior is reported to settle for a conventional digi-analog instrument console instead of the Indian version’s fancy digital unit. The car will have standard dual airbags. In comparison, the India-made Kwid offers optional driver airbag in the top-end variant.

Latin American Kwid will be safer than its Indian counterpart.

Engines for Brazil include flex-fuel versions of the 800 cc three-cylinder and the 1.0-litre three cylinder flex fuel motors. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard but we expect the automaker to offer an Easy-R AMT as well.

The Renault Kwid will be positioned as the most affordable car in the brand’s Brazilian portfolio. It will rival the newly launched Fiat Mobi entry level small car.
