BS6 Hero Splendor Plus FI launch price Rs 60k – Up to Rs 7k hike

Just like the BS4 Splendor+, the BS6 options are also on offer in three variants. Prices range from Rs 59,600 to Rs 63,110.

The Hero Splendor Plus has been the indisputable king of commuter motorcycle segment for decades now. The simple and trustworthy workhorse hardly witnessed a significant technological upgrade since its inception. The carbureted 97.2 cc air-cooled engine has withstood the test of time.

With the Indian government deciding to jump directly to BS6 emission standards from the current BS4, the folks at Hero MotoCorp finally had to give the cashcow its first major hardware upgrade. The engine continues to be a 97.2 cc unit but it now breathes via an electronic fuel-injection system to improve the emission performance. The best-selling commuter also receives an additional catalytic converter to ensure compliance.

The decade old design has been left untouched as expected. Why mend something that is not already broken? However, the company marked the upgrade with all-new decals and dual-tone colour themes. Also, the instrument console now gets a engine-check light owing to the addition of FI. There are no other changes to the Splendor Plus.

The air-cooled engine continues to be paired with a 4-speed transmission. The power and torque outputs stand at 8.36 hp and 8.05 Nm respectively. The fuel efficiency figure is estimated to be in the ballpark of 80 kmpl. Some of its rivals claim a higher mileage but that never stopped the Splendor Plus from topping the sales chart before.

The 2020 Hero Splendor Plus FI has started reaching showrooms across the country. Apart from Splendor Plus, the other Hero two wheelers in the BS6 club as of now are the Splendor iSmart, HF Deluxe, Maestro, Destini and Pleasure Plus. Rest of the portfolio is expected to be upgraded in quick succession before the April 1, 2020.

Compared to the BS4 Hero Splendor+, the BS6 Splendor Plus prices are hiked by up to Rs 7.1k. The hike is more noticeable in the price-sensitive commuter segment but since most of its rivals will also witness an inflation of similar magnitude, we expect the Splendor Plus to retain its popularity. Competition will come from the likes of Bajaj Platina, TVS Star City+, etc. The real rival, in terms of sales numbers, is the Honda Activa which just got upgraded to 6G.
