BS6 Suzuki Gixxer 250, SF 250 launch price up by Rs 3,000

Ex-showroom prices of Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 start at Rs 1.63 lakh and Rs 1.74 lakh, respectively

Since the easing of restrictions, the auto sector has witnessed a slew of BS6 product launches. They were mostly planned to be launched by March 2020 but things did not move forward due to the lockdown. Suzuki Motorcycle India has launched its updated Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 in BS6 format. The naked Gixxer 250 BS6 is priced at Rs 1.63 lakh whereas its faired twin, Gixxer SF 250 BS6 will retail at Rs 1.74 lakh. Gixxer SF 250 is also available in Suzuki’s MotoGP colour theme for Rs 1.75 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.

With the launch of BS6 Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250, Suzuki Motorcycle India has completely made its shift to BS6 emission norms. Earlier this year in March, the company had launched BS6 versions of Gixxer 150 and Gixxer 150 SF that are powered by a 155cc engine. With BS6 upgrade, prices went up by Rs 12,000 over their BS4 counterparts.

On the other hand, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer has followed a competitive pricing strategy for BS6 Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250. Compared to their BS4 counterparts, there has been a price hike of only Rs 3,400 and Rs 3,000, respectively. The relatively lower price hike makes sense as the compelling Bajaj Dominar 250 was introduced at Rs 1.60 lakh ex-showroom.

In terms of styling, BS6 Gixxer 250 twins are almost identical to the BS4 models. Gixxer 250 is available in dual-tone Metallic Matte Silver/Black and single-tone Metallic Matte Black. Its faired sibling is offered in Metallic Triton Blue, Metallic Matte Platinum Silver and Metallic Matte Black. Either motorcycle shares several features such as LED headlamp and tail lamp, digital instrument cluster, twin-outlet muffler, rear tyre hugger, brushed finish alloy wheels, Suzuki easy-start system, split seats, etc.

Suzuki Gixxer 250 twins are powered by a 249cc SOCS (Suzuki Oil Cooling System) FI single-cylinder engine that generates roughly 26bhp at 9300rpm and 22.2Nm at 7300rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. BS6-compliance was achieved through some tweaks around the exhaust system and ECU. Output remains almost the same as before. Suzuki Gixxer 250 primarily rivals Dominar 250 and Yamaha FZ25 while Gixxer SF 250 does not have a direct competitor.

Earlier this month, Suzuki Motorcycle India commenced production at its Gurugram plant after a gap of 55 days. Almost half of its dealerships have been opened as well. Suzuki Motorcycle India dealerships follow recommended sanitization and social distancing norms to maintain safety against COVID-19.
