Chevrolet Enjoy MPV fails crash test as it gets 0 star rating

India-made Chevrolet Enjoy from General Motors has failed the crash test miserably. For adult occupancy, the car scored 0 points and for child occupancy the car managed to get 2 stars. Below is the report from Global NCAP talking about the results of Chevy Enjoy crash test –

ADULT OCCUPANT

The protection offered to the driver head and chest was poor and for this reason the star capping was applied. Passenger’s head protection was weak while chest protection was adequate. The front passengers’ knees could impact with dangerous structures in the dashboard like the Tran fascia tube. The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding any further loadings.

CHILD OCCUPANT

The child seat for the 3 year old child was unable to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact. The recommended CRSs did not show incompatibility. The installation instructions on both child seats were insufficient and not permanently attached to the seat. The vehicle was not equipped with a passenger airbag.

The Enjoy which is essentially a rebadged Chinese Wuling HongGuang was launched in India in 2013 and received a facelift in 2015. A bland design and outdated interior meant that the people carrier didn’t actually take off. Offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options, it is priced in the range of INR 6.58 lakh to INR 7.68 lakh, ex-showroom.

Struggling with lackluster sales, GM India is gearing up for a comprehensive product rejig in the coming years. The company recently announced that it has axed the plan to launch Spin MPV here. In an attempt to restructure its operations in India and cut down the losses, GM has shut its Halol plant and sold it off.

GM India is presently focusing on offsetting the poor domestic sale performance by increasing exports. The Sail twins are also expected to be discontinued in this financial year. The Sail sedan would be replaced by the Essentia sub-4m sedan.
