Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze top 2 compact sedans for March 2019

Maruti Dzire ended 2018 CY with highest sales, ending the reign of Alto, which stayed on No 1 for 13 consecutive years.

Sales of Maruti DZire in the compact sedan segment, stood at 19,935 units in March 2019. These are down 10.18 percent, as compared to sales of 22,195 units in March 2018. Despite the decline in sales, Dzire continues to be the no 1 car in the segment, as far as sales is concerned.

Honda Amaze was in the second spot in terms of sales in March 2019. Sales of the Amaze stood at 7,419 units, up a massive 936.17 percent; as compared to sales of 716 units sold in March 2018. The reason Honda sold such less numbers of Amaze in March 2018, is because they had discontinued old Amaze production, and were about to start production of new Amaze.

A 44 percent fall in sales was noted for the Hyundai Xcent in March 2019. Its sales stood at 1,792 units as against sales of 3,200 units in March 2018. These low sales were despite the fact that the automaker announced discount schemes and exchange bonuses worth up to Rs 75,100, which included Rs 5,100 discount for government employees, Rs 30,000 exchange bonus and Rs 40,000 cash discount. Sales in February 2019 were also low at 1,924 units.

Sales of the Ford Aspire sedan were lower by 40.47 percent in March 2019. It declined to 1,277 units as against sales in March 2018 at 2,145 units. However, compared to Feb 2019 sales figures, there was a marginal increase. Ford will next launch a new variant of the sedan, Aspire BLU in India. It will be a top end variant, and is expected to boost sales.

Tata Tigor sales also took a dip in the past month by 40.46 percent with total sales of 1,236 units during the month as against sales of 2,076 units in March 2018. 1,259 units were sold in February 2019.

Sales of the Volkswagen Ameo surged 10.61 percent in March 2019 to 792 units; up from 716 units sold in March 2018. Sales in February 2019 were at 622 units. The company has just launched the Black & White edition of the Polo, Ameo and Vento in India. These special editions will be available without any additional cost.

Mahindra Verito sales increased 4.62 percent in March 2019 with a total of 181 units sold; as against 173 units sold in the same month of the previous year. It is not clear if Mahindra will be updating the Verito sedan to meet the upcoming safety and emission norms.
