Datsun Go+ MPV vs Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio spec compare

Datsun Go+ MPV is hinted to be more of a Maruti Wagon R rival, but since it is a seven seater, let’s compare it with hottest selling domestic MPVs in the market.

Dimensions – Datsun Go+ MPV is a sub-4 metre sub-compact MPV that is dubbed as a Compact Family Wagon. It measures much lesser in length and height in comparison with Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio MPVs but the width is closer (though lesser). Being a sub-4 metre car, Datsun Go+ has significantly shorter wheelbase than the mid-size MPVs, which enables it to manoeuvre with ease and make swift turns at 4.6 m radius. Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio have minimum turning radii of 5.2 m and 5.4 m respectively. Ground clearance of Datsun Go+ is less than the other two, at 170 mm, but considering that 7 adults cannot be seated (to compress the springs much), the measure is more than sufficient to escape surprises on road.

Another aspect where Datsun Go+ shines is boot space. Since it is a sub-compact MPV it really cannot be compared head-on with Ertiga and Mobilio, but it does manage to gulp a lot of luggage for the price you pay for the car. With all seats up, only 48 litres of boot space is left, but with third row seats folded flat, there is 347 litres of open volume to shove all you may need for a picnic.

Engine – Being a compact car, and a mere conversion from hatchback model, Datsun Go+ MPV gets the same 1.2 litre 3-cylinder DOHC engine from the A-segment car, that churns out 68 PS max power and 104 Nm peak torque, which is not bad to drive around 5 people and some luggage at the back in city or highway. Based on our experience with the car (read out review of Datsun Go+ MPV here), the car is pretty responsive and does not disappoint easily when the throttle foot tends to to be sportive. Best of all, the engine manages impressive 20.62 kmpl mileage, atleast when ARAI is doing the testing, compared to 16.02 kmpl in Maruti Ertiga and 17.3 kmpl in Honda Mobilio.

If you want nominal power and mediocre styling, Maruti Ertiga’s 1.4 litre K-Series motor offering 95 PS and 130 Nm should satisfy. Or if you’re a sport head demanding outright performance (for this segment) and cutting edge styling, Honda Mobilio should win your heart with its renowned 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine dishing out 110 PS and 145 Nm. All vehicles in this petrol MPV comparison are equipped with 5-speed manual transmission.

Price – Datsun Go+ MPV is priced in the range of Rs. 3.79 lakhs to Rs. 4.61 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi), while Maruti Ertiga is a pricier MPV in the band of Rs. 5.98 lakhs to Rs. 7.59 lakhs. Honda Mobilio is a premium product priced in the bracket of Rs. 6.49 lakhs to Rs. 8.78 lakhs. One can almost buy two entry level Datsun Go+ for the cost of Ertiga petrol top end; or buy two high end Go+ MPVs for the price of range topping Mobilio petrol. That’s Datsun Go+ MPV’s USP.
