DSK Benelli working on India-specific Duke 390 rival

The single-cylinder 300-400 cc motorcycle is slated to make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Of late, DSK Benelli has been busy strengthening its medium displacement portfolio. Having launched the Benelli 302R fully faired motorcycle recently, the company is now gearing up to introduce three more contenders in the segment including Leoncino and TRK 502.

The third one in the pipeline is easily the most interesting because it will be the brand’s first India-specific model. According to Carandbike, DSK Benelli is working on a 300-400 cc single-cylinder motorcycle, which will be pitted against the extremely popular KTM Duke 390 in India.

Chairman Shirish Kulkarni reportedly said that the motorcycle in question is scheduled to make its first appearance at 2018 Auto Expo. Technical specifications of the new compact Benelli street fighter are under wraps as of now but we expect it to employ trellis frame and inverted telescopic front fork. Performance figures have to be in the same ballpark as its primary rival in order to make a strong case.

DSK Benelli is likely to have significantly higher local content in the new motorcycle than any of its existing models that are assembled at its Wai facility. Such a move would help the company to come up with a competitive price tag (somewhere in the range of INR 2.5 to 3 lakhs, ex-showroom).

DSK Group is also working on increasing the number of Benelli outlets across the country from the current 26 to 55 by the end of this financial year.
