BMW Motorrad shows the world how G310R is made in India by TVS

Built in India for the world, the new BMW G310R has received a thumbs up from International media for its built quality. Launched in over 80 countries (but, not in India), all those who have bought the bike, or have test ridden it, have praised its built quality. Some event went ahead and said it is best in class (are you listening KTM Duke 390?).

BMW G310R has been one of the most awaited bikes ever since it was unveiled about 2 years ago. Many bikers in India were excited, for this motorcycle’s launch – as it was the first BMW motorcycle to be made in Inida. Now, BMW Motorrad has shown how their new entry level motorcycle is made by TVS in India. Watch the video below.

In spite of being made in India, when BMW announced their official entry into India in April 2017, the G310R was not on the list of bikes they put up on sale in the country. The reason, BMW Motorrad India is currently setting up the business operations for launching the entry level G310R in India. The same was confirmed when reader Adithya Benzeer had asked them on Facebook.

Manufactured by their partner TVS Motors, the 310R was expected to be launched first in India, and then in Europe. But, that has not happened. In fact, exports of the made-in-India G310R are in full swing. Last quarter, the company had exported more than 4,500 units of the G310R. The company has not revealed any reason as to why they do not plan to launch the bike in India.

BMW G310R spied recently while out on test.

Even though India did not get the G310R first, there is atleast the confirmation that the bike will be launched in India soon. As per the chat with BMW Motorrad India, they are currently finalizing launch dates. Does this mean that the launch of G310R is sometime soon?

BMW G310R is powered by a new 313 cc water cooled single cylinder engine offering 34 PS peak power at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm peak torque at 7,500 rpm while mated to a 6-speed transmission. The bike promises sharp dynamics along with impressive fuel efficiency. BMW G310R has a fuel tank of 11 liter capacity and total weight stands at 158 kgs, which results in effective power to weight ratio of 212.7 bhp per tonne.

New BMW G310R features a sleek headlamp, aggressive stance and an overall athletic look. It gets an instrument cluster with large liquid crystal display offering a wide range of information. Braking is via 300mm disc brakes with four piston calipers in the front and 240mm disc brakes with single piston calipers at the rear. It gets upside down forks in the front and monoshock at the rear. Michelin tyres are standard for the international market.

In the international market (Europe and US), the G310R is priced lower than the Duke 390. Considering that both bikes are made in India, and exported from here to markets around the world, it is possible that the G310R gets a sub 2 lakh price tag in India. But, there are reports which claim BMW might not launch the G310R at such an affordable price in India as the brand has a premium status in the country.
