Fiat Linea Abarth under consideration

Even as Fiat Chrysler India is exploring possible replacements for the aging Linea sedan, a go-faster variant is on the cards.

The positive response from the enthusiasts for the soon-to-be-launched Fiat Punto Abarth has given the ailing Italian automaker enough confidence to come up with more India-spec Abarth performance derivatives. The Punto Abarth will soon be followed by the Avventura Abarth.

Autocar India reports that the company is planning to develop an Abarth variant of the Linea sedan as well. Given that the high performance modules of the Punto can be easily adapted by the sedan, cost and development time factors are only favorable. The Fiat Linea Abarth, if produced, will employ the same 145 PS 1.4-litre T-Jet turbocharged petrol engine which is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

An Abarth derivative of the Linea will derive its salient features from the soon-to-be-launched Punto Abarth.

As in the case of the Punto Abarth, in addition to the added performance, the sedan is likely to receive rear disc brakes, stiffened suspension and reduced ride height of 20 mm. These changes should increase the sportiness of what is already a sweet handling package.

Visually, the Fiat Linea Abarth will feature contrasting accents on the grille and wing mirrors, exclusive Abarth alloy wheels, signature side body decals and possibly a rear spoiler.
