Ford EcoSport facelift to get new rear end design, will shed tailgate spare wheel

A company spokesperson has confirmed to Autonews Europe that new Ford EcoSport facelift will be launched in May 2015 there, with significant design changes.

Ford EcoSport is apparently far less popular in Europe. In April – November period of 2014, the American compact crossover has only managed to sell 11,257 units, while in India, EcoSport has sold about four times the figure in the same period. Although cumulative sales show good number, Ford EcoSport is facing downtrend in India as well. From around 5,500 units per month like 10 months ago, sales has gradually dipped to just over 3,500 units.

Anyways, the concern is that Ford EcoSport’s chief rival Renault Captur has sold 149,701 units in the same 10 month period of 2014, which is roughly 14 times higher than the former.
So to fill this enormous sales gap, Ford has decided to launch EcoSport facelift in Europe soon with striking design changes to exterior as well as interior. The most prominent difference will be absence of tailgate mounted spare wheel, revealing the revised rear fascia. The spokesperson mentioned that the previous setup with hanging spare wheel will also be offered alongside at no extra cost (probably because it has been an integral part of the identity of EcoSport crossover).

Further, higher quality interior plastics and changes to suspension are said to be made to Ford EcoSport facelift, which will give it a bit more Fiesta personality (according to the spokesperson).
