General Motors CEO Mary Barra and GM North America President Alan Batey celebrated the production of the company’s 500 millionth vehicle.
The ceremony saw Trent Brining being honored with a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. He is among four others who have been identified to receive a GM vehicle as a part of these celebrations. Trent Brining is a retired army corporal who has underdone 23 surgeries and earned a Purple Heart.
While celebrating this important milestone, General Motors also drew attention to some outstanding innovations that included the first V8 engine, the first automatic transmission and first air bags in a production vehicle.
Celebrations of the General Motors’ 500 millionth vehicle in 106 years was conducted along with customers, employees and dealers at the company’s Fairfax Kansas Assembly Plant. It is from this plant that the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will enter production later this year. Added investments to the tune of $174 million were also announced which will be directed towards new equipment and technology to be seen on board the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu.
Barra has also announced a one-time Customer Appreciation Discount starting from the third week of May. All US salaried and represented employees and retirees can avail of this discount which can be combined with other initiatives. Extensive sales plans were also revealed wherein the company expects to sell over 1000 units per hour, 24 hours a day which could add up to 10 million vehicles.
