Genesis G90 (EQ900) luxury sedan unveiled, rivals Mercedes S Class, BMW 7 Series Audi A8

Under the premium luxury brand Genesis, which Hyundai officially announced a few weeks ago, the first car has been unveiled. Called Genesis G90 (or Genesis EQ900 in Korea), the launch is set to take place some time in January 2016. The first market to receive Genesis G90 is South Korea, while it will be launched in North America, China and Middle East by second half of 2016.

To be offered alongside the Hyundai cars on sale currently, Genesis is a stand-alone brand which will also be launched in many more countries across the globe as the model range increases.

Measuring 5,205 mm in length, 1,915 mm in width, 1,495 mm in height, Genesis G90 has a wheelbase of 3,160 mm (an unconfirmed long wheelbase version is also in the making with length of 5,495 mm and wheelbase of 3,450 mm).

With Genesis G90, Hyundai aims to rival the Mercedes S Class, Audi A4, and BMW 7 Series.

Built on a completely new platform, the first Genesis has been inspired from the Vision G Coupe concept which made debut earlier this year. Hyundai states that more than 51.7% of the structure of G90 consists of high-tensile steel. Stronger and lighter than conventional steel, this makes the G90’s cabin a secured place.

Power to the new Genesis G90 comes from a 3.8 liter Lambda V6 GDi generating 315 PS and 395 Nm. There is also a more powerful Lambda V6 Turbo GDi twin-turbo which is rated at 370 PS and 510 Nm torque. This engine is mated to a 8 speed automatic transmission, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 6.2 seconds. There is also a top of the line 5.0 Tau V8 GDi engine on offer. This engine is capable of 425 PS and 520 Nm torque. 0-100 kmph sprint time is 5.7 seconds. All three variants get RWD and 8 speed AT as standard.

On the inside, Genesis G90 features includes a 12.3 inch infotainment screen on the dashboard, plush seats, premium leather upholstery, 9.2 inch personal tablets for rear seat passengers, 3 zone climate control, wireless charging, triple door seals, electrically adjustable seats, and double glass insulation.

Safety features on offer includes autonomous braking system, pedestrian detection, blind spot detection, driver alert system, high-beam assist, around-view monitor, airbags, ABS, EBD, park assist, Hill Descent Assist, etc. Price of Genesis G90 ranges from 73 million won ($61,900) to 117 million won ($99,200).
