Following the announcement of the Genesis luxury sub-brand, Hyundai has released the teaser of Genesis G90 flagship luxury saloon. The first product of the sub-brand will be unveiled in South Korea next month under the local EQ900 moniker before making its appearance in the US as G90.
To succeed the Hyundai Equus sedan, the Genesis G90 will be vying to take on the established large luxury saloons such as the Mercedes S Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8. The new product will adopt a design language which follows the “Athletic Elegance” theme.
The sketch indicates that several design cues have been derived from the Hyundai Vision G Coupe concept. The overall styling is an amalgamation of traits that can be seen in Audi, BMW and Bentley. We expect the interior design and layout also to be derived from the Vision G Coupe.
No further details are furnished at the moment but expect the G90 to be underpinned by a lightweight platform. The Equus’ 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine is likely to be retained albeit with some improvements. It’s also said that the flagship saloon will receive an option of all-wheel drive.
Hyundai has announced that Genesis sub-brand will have a six-product strong portfolio by 2020. The second car is expected to be a Hyundai Genesis successor which could adopt the G90 nameplate.
