Harley Davidson exports from India to be scaled up for 2015

Harley Davidson commenced initial exports of Street 500 and 750 models to Europe in 2014. This year, the company will increase volumes, and by year-end, plans are to make the bikes available in all the markets HD is operating in.

Harley Davidson exports from India to be scaled up this year, to cover major Asia Pacific markets.

Asia Pacific, West Asia and Latin America are some of the largest growing markets for Harley Davidson. India will serve as an export hub for Harley Davidson Street series, for Asia Pacific markets including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia and Japan.

Harley Davidson India, produces Street 750 and Street 500 at their manufacturing facelift in Bawal, Haryana. Of the two Street’s, only the Street 750 is sold in India, while the Street 500 is not yet launched in India. As of now, Harley Davidson will continue to produce Street 500 in India strictly for exports, as according to the company, market feedback is not favourable for the model to be put on sale here.

Harley Davidson Managing Director, Anoop Prakash, said the company has emerged market leader in the premium motorcycle segment in terms of volume sales. HD has sold over 8,000 units across its lineup of 12 models, 8 of which are assembled locally at their Indian facility. In the next few years, high double digit sales are anticipated by the firm.
