Helicopter to ferry you to airport and back at taxi rates in Bangalore
Heli-Taxi services could soon be operational between Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and Electronics City in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru will be the first city in the country to have helicopter shuttle service. The service was announced by Ministry of State for Civil Aviation – Jayant Sinha and is being planned by Thumbi Aviation Private Limited.
This service will initially commence between Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and Electronics City and will then be extended to White Field and HAL airport. The service is set to get underway over the next three months as Thumby Aviation is in the process of completing formalities and seeking regulatory approvals.
The fare for these luxury heli-taxis will be between INR 2,500-3,000 and it will be a quick transfer service to and from the airport at the price of a luxury taxi. Thumbi Aviation has two Bell 412 helicopters capable of ferrying 13 passengers and Bell 407 helicopters which can accommodate 5 persons.
The route from KIA to Electronics City which usually takes a maximum of 2.5 hours to travel by road will be completed in 10-15 minutes via these heli-taxis. Besides using these heli-taxis for ferrying customers, the services can also be used for medical emergencies.
When asked how this service will be practical in a city like Bengaluru, Sinha stated that there are 300 such helicopters operating in Sao Paulo in Brazil which is as large as Bengaluru. There are also 90 rooftop helipads in the city though till date only one located at the ITC Royal Gardenia on Residency Road has got clearance from the Civil Aviation authorities.
