Hero Impulse 200 cc off-roader launch planned for 2018
Hero MotoCorp is set to introduce a new off-roader in the form of Impulse 200cc.
In spite of being the largest two wheeler manufacturer in the world, Hero’s market share in the 150cc and above segment is no where close to rivals. In the 150+ cc segment, Bajaj is the leader with 31%, followed by Royal Enfield at 25%, Honda at 14.8%, TVS at 12.5% and Yamaha at 10.7%.
Analysts believe that in the coming years, demand for the 150+cc segment is going to rise exponentially, while that of the commuter segment is slowly decline. In order to focus in this segment, Hereo has announced the launch of two new products in the 200 cc segment by 2018.
Set to enhance market share and consolidate company’s leadership position in the country, Hero MotoCorp is planning new offerings in the scooter and premium motorcycle segments. Two motorcycles in the 200cc range are being developed currently. One of them is a fully faired variant of the Hero Xtreme 200S while another 200cc motorcycle is going to be a offroad machine based on the Impulse.
Engine powering these two motorcycles will be a single cylinder 4 stroke air cooled FI mill that will deliver power in the range of 19 PS and torque in the range of 18 Nm. Features on offer these bikes will include sporty stance, LED headlights, LED DRLs, LED turn indicators, LED tail lights, digital instrument console, disc brakes, optional ABS, etc.
Once launched, these new Hero bikes will compete with the likes of Bajaj Pulsar NS200, TVS Apache RTR 200 and Yamaha FZ25 in the segment. Expect the bikes to be priced in the range of INR 1.2-1.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
