Hero Xtreme 200R was unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo. It was finally launched in August 2018 at a price of Rs 89,900, ex-sh. It received a price hike in April 2019, and now in July 2019, it has received another price hike. It now retails at Rs 91,900, ex-sh.
Despite this price hike, the 200R is still the most affordable 200cc motorcycle in its segment in the country. The company offered no reasons for this price hike but it could be due to higher manufacturing costs.
This price hike by 1 percent has been introduced across the company portfolio with the fully faired Xtreme 200S also getting a price hike from Rs.98,500 to Rs.99,400 its first hike in just two months of launch.
Lower price than rivals has not translated in higher sales. In fact, Hero Xtreme 200R is one of the lowest selling motorcycle in the segment. It posted its lowest sales in 2019 for June, selling just 837 units.
Unlike 200S, the 200R does not receive any LED headlamp or fully digital instrument console but instead receives a halogen headlamp and semi digital instrument console with an analogue tachometer. Feature include a contoured seat for better ergonomics and better comfort both for rider and pillion while the 200R gets 5 dual tone colour options of Panther Black with cool Silver, Panther Black with Red, Sports Red, Charcoal Grey with Orange and Techno Blue.
Engine specifications include a 200cc air cooled engine offering 18.4 PS at 8000 rpm power and maximum torque of 17.1 Nm at 6500 rpm. Acceleration from 0-60 kmph is achieved in 4.6 seconds while top speed stands at 114 kmph. The engine gets mated to a 5 speed transmission. Suspension is via 37mm telescopic hydraulic suspension in the front and 7 step adjustable monoshock at the rear.
Hero Xtreme 200R competes with the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V priced at Rs.1.11 lakhs, the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 priced at Rs.1.12 lakhs and also takes on the newly launched Suzuki Gixxer 155, priced at Rs.1.00 lakhs. All prices are ex-sh.
