Honda Activa began its journey in 2001, and has been the scooter of choice to more than 39 million customers (3.9 crore). Now, at a time when the auto industry is undergoing a massive shift to BS6, Honda says they are ready to meet the change.
At the event today, Honda said that the company is fully prepared to lead this change, and lead scooterisation in India, leading the way with its BSVI transition. And today, they started a new journey, with the debut of India’s first ever BS6 two wheeler – Activa 125.
Honda Activa BS6 follows the same design as seen on the standard Honda Activa. Though it gets several feature and technology updates, it continues to be powered by the same 125cc air cooled engine.
2019 Honda Activa 125 BS6 is seen with a semi digital instrument cluster with distance to empty feature. Other design updates include new alloys with telescopic forks in the front. The scooter also sports Honda’s Idle Start Stop feature as is also seen on the Hero i3S.
Activa BS6 comes equipped with many segment first features including silent start. ESP tech enhances performance and focuses on friction reduction. Self starting cranking noise is reduced. Fuel efficiency is improved and targeted emission norms reached.
It also gets a fuel injection system making it the second scooter in the country to receive this feature after the Hero Maestro Edge 125. In the front, there is a well designed front mudguard, sharp creases over its bodywork and LED lighting along with tubeless tyres.
Power to the new Honda Activa 125 BS6 comes from the same 125 cc, single cylinder, air cooled engine with FI. It offers 8.4 bhp power at 6,500 rpm and 10.54 Nm torque at 5,000 rpm mated to a CVT unit and complying with Bharat Stage VI (BS6) emission regulations that come into place from April 2020.
The new Honda Activa 125 BS6 competes with the TVS NTorq 125, Aprilia SR 125, Hero Maestro Edge and the Suzuki Burgman Street 125. Honda Activa has been the largest selling two wheeler in the country with sales of around 30 lakh units over the past two financial years. In FY 2018-19, there were 30,08,334 units sold though down 4.6 percent from FY2017-18 when sales stood at 31,54,030 units.
125cc scooters command 20 percent of the market share. This June, Honda’s flagship Activa turns 18 having been introduced back in June 2001. Activa 125 BSVI is available with 3 years standard and 3 years optional warranty. 6 colour options are on offer. It will go on sale in Sep 2019. Expect a price hike of about 10k over the regular Activa 125.
