The high localization would help the BR-V take on the Duster facelift.

The Honda BR-V bookings have commenced ahead of its launch in the first week of May. The Mobilio-based crossover is vying to take on the likes of Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta with 7-seats as its primary selling point. Dealerships have started accepting bookings for an amount of INR 21,000.

Visually, the BR-V (Bold Runabout Vehicle) is essentially a bolder interpretation of the Mobilio with typical crossover ensembles like wheel arches and lower body cladding, squarish front fascia with massive chrome grille applique, revised headlamps and roof rails. The rear fascia too is revamped to distance the BR-V from the Mobilio.

The vehicle is currently on a 20-day tour across India.

Inside, the crossover borrows design inspiration from the City and Jazz (like the facelifted Amaze). The fully loaded variant would be equipped with touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, projector headlamps, alloy wheels, and so on. Dual front airbags and ABS with EBD are most likely to be offered as standard fitments across the lineup.

The BR-V’s primary advantage over its rivals will be the additional row of seats.

The Honda BR-V would be employing familiar 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and i-DTEC diesel engines that are found in the Mobilio and City. The petrol motor produces 119 PS and 145 Nm of torque and diesel churns out 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The i-VTEC motor is expected to be available with both 5-MT and CVT while the oil burner would make do with a manual gearbox.
