Honda Civic sedan has been the company’s much loved car, not only in India, but across the globe. It is the 3rd best selling car in the world, and Honda’s best selling car. In 2018, over 8.12 lakh units of Honda Civic were sold in the world. With such staggering numbers, the car was launched in India today.
Even in India, the Civic is off to a good start. At the launched event Honda revealed that they have already received over 1,100 confirmed bookings. This is about double the number of total executive sedan segment monthly sales registered in India. The 10th gen Honda Civic sedan is positioned between the City and Accord in the company lineup. It will compete with the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis and Hyundai Elantra.

The new generation Honda Civic comes in with a new design. It gets a complete exterior overhaul with new front and rear designs, making it look a lot different than the last Civic which was on sale in India. 2019 Honda Civic sees a change in dimensions. It now stands 4,656mm in length, 1,799mm in width and 1,433mm in height. It gets a 2,700mm long wheelbase and will be positioned on Honda global platform based on the company’s Man Maximum Machine Minimum philosophy. In spite of overall height lower than City, ground clearance is more than City, by 6 mm.
Highlight in the front is its LED headlamps, put together by a thick chrome slat with Honda logo in the center. The front bumper features more contours and chrome than before, giving the car more sporty / premium styling. On the side, you can notice large 17 inch alloys, chrome accents, aerodynamic ORVMs with chrome door handles. What catches the eye, is the sloping roofline, which seamlessly merges into the car’s rear. Rear design is further enhanced by the addition of C shaped LED tail lamps, giving the car a unique character.
Interiors feature latest in driver assistance and infotainment. It gets ivory leather seats, dual zone climate control and remote ignition with push button start. It also sports a large 7” touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Panoramic sunroof is also on offer.
In terms of safety, the new Honda Civic which has received a 5 Star ASEAN NCAP rating, gets a total of 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, stability control, hill climb assist, electric parking brake and reverse camera. It will also be seen with keyless entry, power windows, seat belt reminder system and smart key to operate sunroof and tailgate remotely. Advance Package, Chrome Package and other accessories are on offer to customers who want to accessorize the car.
2019 Honda Civic is powered by a 1.8 liter iVTEC petrol engine offering 139 bhp power at 6,500 rpm and 174 Nm torque at 4,300 rpm mated to a CVT automatic transmission. It also gets a 1.6 liter iDTEC diesel engine generating 118 bhp power at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm torque at 3,000 rpm mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. Mileage claimed by petrol variant is 16.5 kmpl and that by diesel Civic is 26.8 kmpl. Automatic is not offered with diesel engine, and manual is not offered with petrol engine.
