Honda Dio records 30 L global sales in 17 yrs – 15 L sold in last 3 yrs

Honda Dio scooter, which went on sale in 2002, has clocked up total sales of 30 lakh units. It is regaled as the country’s most youthful moto-scooter and targets a younger segment of buyers in the country with its brilliant color options and bold styling.

This milestone sales of 30 lakh units follows the first 15 lakh sales which took 14 years while the latest 15 lakh units were sold in 3 years. The Dio is India’s fourth largest selling scooter and it has not only gained success in the country but is the country’s No. 1 exported scooter with a 44 percent export market share in the scooter segment.

The Honda Dio is exported to over 11 South Asian and Latin American countries. It is offered in 9 colors under two variants of Standard and Deluxe. The color options on the Standard variant include Vibrant Orange, Sports Yellow, Sports Red, Candy Jazzy Blue and Matte Axis Grey Metallic. The Deluxe variant is available in Dazzle Yellow Metallic, Matte Marshal Green Metallic, Pearl Igneous Black and Matte Axis Grey Metallic.

Honda Dio, updated in 2017, receives bold styling. It gets apron mounted LED headlamp, LED DRLs, digital meter with service due indicator, remote seat unlock option and a newly designed tail lamp. Its fiber body shell makes it lighter while it claims higher ground clearance as compared to the Honda Activa.

The latest generation Honda Dio is priced at Rs. 52,938 for the Standard variant while the Deluxe variant is priced at Rs.53,937. It gets powered via the same 109cc, single cylinder, 4 stroke, fan cooled engine offering 8 bhp power at 7,000 rpm and 8.91 Nm torque at 5,500 rpm mated to a V Matic transmission claiming a top speed of 83 kmph. The engine is now BS VI compliant. The Honda Dio sits on 10” tubeless tyres at the front and rear while braking is via 130mm drum brakes at both ends with Combi Brake System offered as standard. The Honda Dio competes with the Yamaha Ray ZR and Hero Maestro Edge.
