Dimensions – Honda Unicorn 160 has average length but has least height and most width, measuring 2,045 x 757 x 1,060 mm (Length x Width x Height). Wheelbase of the latest is the least at 1,324 mm but not by a significant margin. Saddle height is not available currently, but from the looks of it, Unicorn 160 will have higher seat than Yamaha FZ FI Ver. 2.0 and Suzuki Gixxer, which measure 790 mm and 780 mm respectively. Kerb weight of Unicorn 160 is 135, on par with Gixxer, but FZ FI proves to be lightest at 132 kg. Fuel tank capacity of all the three are same at 12 litres.

All bikes in this segment have 5-speed gearbox, and all these three have no rear disc brake, even as option.

Engine – Honda Unicorn 160 has the largest displacement engine in this comparison. It is a 162.7 cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor producing 14.7 PS max power @ 8,000 rpm and 14.61 Nm peak torque @ 6,000 rpm. Suzuki Gixxer’s 154.9 cc engine is the second largest, and churns out more power and lesser torque than Unicorn. Specs read 14.8 PS @ 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm @ 6,000 rpm. Yamaha FZ / FZ-S FI Version 2.0 has new 149 cc engine that is good for 13.1 PS @ 8,000 rpm and 12.8 Nm @ 6,000 rpm. Although rated engine power and torque are lower in comparison, being the only rival with Fuel Injection instead of carburetor, fuel / power delivery is better controlled.

Mileage – When it comes to mileage, Yamaha FZ’s FI engine shows significant dip against competitors, with only 54 kmpl ARAI certified figure. Honda Unicorn 160 has claimed fuel efficiency of 62 kmpl, whereas that of Suzuki Gixxer is higher at 63.5 kmpl.

Tyres – Stock tyre sizes are increasingly becoming a deal breaker these days, and in that front, Honda Unicorn 160 fails to impress, with only 80/100-17 upfront and 110/80-17 at the rear. but, Yamaha FZ / FZ-S FI V2.0 and Suzuki Gixxer come with identical sizes at front and back – 100/80-17 and 140/60R-17 respectively. The 140 section tyres in both bikes are radial.

Price – One good score for Honda Unicorn 160 is price. It is the most affordable in this comparison; priced at Rs. 69,350 for standard variant and Rs. 74,414 for CBS (Combi-Braking System) variant. Yamaha FZ FI is priced at Rs. 76,850, FZ-S FI at Rs. 78,850 and Suzuki Gixxer at Rs. 72,199. All prices are ex-showroom New Delhi.
