Md Raheem Khan, a watch dealer and his colleague Md Shahbad Khab were on their way towards Suryapet to deliver watches when Komirelli Venkat Reddy, a farmer was crossing the road to get to his farm on the other side. The speed of the car, bearing registration number AP 09BY 2725, knocked down the farmer and tossed his body into the air. The body landed on the hood of the speeding Maruti Suzuki Ritz. Instead of stopping the car, the driver sped off.
Onlookers, aghast by the turn of events, chased the car and tried getting the attention of the driver. The driver, however, fearing arrest, chose to ignore all this and continued speeding instead of stopping and taking Reddy to the nearby Kamineni hospital. Following the crash, the farmer’s leg got stuck in the car spoiler due to which he was trapped on the top of the vehicle.
The car was finally halted after the cops laid a trap, but not before Raheem Khan drove the car for 50 kms in an attempt to get away with the crime. The occupants were arrested and the body of the farmer was handed over to relatives following a post mortem. A complaint of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been lodged against the driver and occupant by a relative of the victim, Bhupal Reddy at Narketpally police station.

The driver in his defence, states that neither he nor his co-passenger was aware about the body on the roof till bystanders pointed this out to them. Though the car was stopped by police at Kattangur, the driver stated that they were taking a sick man to a nearby hospital. CH Murthy Rao, Sub-Inspector, Narketpally Police Station claims that the farmer died on the spot due to the impact and severity of injuries. The duo continues to be in denial ever since their arrest.
